Our Mission

Women in Learning is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that provides a forum for students or post-doctoral fellows doing scientific research in the broader fields of Learning Theory, Behavior, and Neuroscience to seek advice, support, and guidance on the advancement of their careers. We aim to foster communication across all ages, genders, and levels of expertise. We are solely run by grad students, post-docs, and newly minted professors, and we are 100% donation based. We now have over 250 members across the country and internationally who have donated over $25,000.

Our flagship event is the annual WIL luncheon at the Pavlovian Society annual meeting, where we hear a trailblazing female scientist speak about her experiences, and break bread with friends and colleagues. Our first luncheon was in 2011, with just a few in attendance. Now, our luncheon hosts over 100 colleagues and is featured in Pavlovian Society’s annual conference program.

Since we first started, we have also launched newer initiatives. We have a Mentoring Program, smaller meet-ups at other conferences like Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) and International Behavioral Neuroscience Society (IBNS), and engage in multiple collaborations annually with other non-profits organizations. We also give out research and travel awards to deserving grad students. We are always looking for new and innovative ways to connect, so please send us your suggestions!
